Our South America gap year program takes advantage of our over 20-year history of exploration in the region and opens doors unimagined by the casual traveler. Tread in the footsteps of the Inca and gain insight into an ancient culture as we explore the famous ruins of Machu Picchu in Peru. Dive deep into the complex conservation issues facing Patagonia and embark on a trek amidst the towering peaks and glacial lakes of the famous Torres del Paine National Park.. The abundance of life around us underscores the rich and unforgettable experiences of this South America semester.

Board a train for a stunning ride to the sacred Incan city of Machu Picchu, the “Gate of the Sun,” and explore its ancient ruins. Participate in three homestays and learn the daily life of local communities. Support a women’s social enterprise collective in the Sacred Valley and try your hand at traditional weaving techniques.
Social and Environmental Justice
Partner with an inspiring organization located in the town of Urubamba and delve into the complex conservation issues surrounding the iconic llamas of the Peruvian Andes. Participate in a community education project in the Sacred Valley. Study the importance of water quality to rural communities in Patagonia. Learn about what it means to live sustainably off the land during a permaculture farm stay.
Adventure
Kayak the Uros Floating Islands and experience traditional life along the shores of Lake Titicaca. Trek through the spectacular granite pillars in the world-renowned Torres del Paine, one of South America’s most beautiful national parks and one of the most famous treks in the world. Looming nearly 10,000 feet above the Patagonian Steppe, the park is home to exotic birds, guanacos, and countless other types of wildlife.
Language Study and Education
Delve into a week of Spanish language study, practicing your skills through lively intercambios with local hosts and through explorations of a charming, rural town in Peru. Engage with students at a local secondary school to experience a typical week in rural Patagonia. Explore the bustling cities and local cuisine of Cusco and Ollantaytambo in the heart of the Sacred Valley.
