How to Apply for our
Gap Programs
Accepting applications for our 2023 fall and 2024 spring semesters. Space is limited, we encourage you to begin this process as early as possible.
ARCC offers nine Gap Semesters throughout the U.S., Africa, Europe, Asia, Latin America and Oceania. All of our gap year programs are designed for students who are engaged, motivated and excited for the new experiences that await them. Whether this means living with a family in a homestay, working in a national park, conducting interviews with local community members, or transitioning and adjusting to cultural norms unfamiliar to them at home, students are often faced with new challenges and opportunities for growth during these semesters. ARCC Gap students should come ready to step outside of their comfort zones and be open to all that lies ahead of them. ARCC goes to great efforts to ensure that our program is the right fit for you. ARCC Gap Semesters are designed for students ages 17 – 20.
How it works
STEP 1
Submit an Enrollment Application
Fill out the online “Enrollment Application” found by clicking “Enroll Now” at www.arccgap.com.
STEP 2
Secure an Available Spot with an $800 Deposit
Submit an $800 deposit to secure your spot. The deposit can be made online or over the phone with a credit card. Deposits are partially refundable before June 1st for the fall and November 1st for the spring, after which they are nonrefundable. Please note that the deposit is fully refundable in the event that the applicant is not accepted into our program, or in the event that we have to cancel a semester before it begins.
STEP 3
Submit the “Detailed ARCC Gap Application” and 2-3 References
The detailed application will be made available to you once you have completed steps 1 and 2. Included in the application will be two references, one based on character, the other based on academics. We have a third Mental Health Reference form for any student who has seen a therapist in the past four years. Reference forms should be passed on to the designated references and can be emailed to ARCC at [email protected] or faxed to 415-332-2130.
Please note that additional references may be required by ARCC.
STEP 4
Interview with a Gap Director
Once the application and both references have been received, a Gap Director will contact the applicant to set up the Gap Admissions Interview. The Interview will be done with an ARCC Gap Director via video chat.
STEP 5
Final Decision
Final Decision. ARCC will notify applicant of final acceptance within two weeks of the interview.
