Skye Silvera

Skylar grew up in the Bay Area wedged in between the Pacific and Mount Tamalpais State Park. Her passion for the outdoors and putting herself out of her comfort zone led her to a Global studies degree with minors in Peace and Conflict, Spanish, and Gender Studies at Long Island University Global. During undergrad she spent each semester in a new country/region of the world looking at local manifestations of global issues, impacts of colonization, and social justice organizations. She has been fortunate enough to travel widely and engage in communities through volunteering, jobs and exchange programs. From working for NGOs that eased immigration difficulties for migrants in Spain, to working on an all woman-run coffee cooperative in Costa Rica, to working for the US’s first hotline that counseled families with loved ones involved in hate groups; She is most happy when she is working for a cause.

Since graduating, Skye leads service/adventure trips with Global Leadership Adventures seasonally, where she has the opportunity to connect with students from various backgrounds and learn how to facilitate and guide learning in different ways. Skye’s ARCC journey began by leading the Fall Southeast Asia gap semester, exploring complex histories, cultures and language in Vietnam, Cambodia & Thailand.

When Skye isn’t leading trips she hemisphere hops for her seasonal job as a winery cellar hand, where she gets to explore her love of history, language and food in world-renowned wine-making regions like Portugal, New Zealand and South Africa. She also loves exploring museums, reading, listening to true crime podcasts and dragging her friends 30 minutes out of the way to cool coffee shops she found on google.
